OpenAI’s ChatGPT4 Plus users have start getting their DALL-E3 integration and they are loving it!

We’ll take a closer look next week.

Microsoft’s AutoGen has gone relatively under the radar this past week.

It optimises workflows to utilise LLM’s like ChatGPT and enables the creation of AI '“Agents”.

AI Agents can interact with each other to accomplish tasks.

This development will have major impacts in automating the way we can do things from organising events, trips, production management, you name it! We will see a lot more of this soon.

THE THIRD WAVE

MUSTAFA SULEYMAN

Since leaving Google Deepmind as it’s original Co-Founder, Mustafa Suleyman has been busy with his new company Inflection.AI building Pi.AI.

He has also released a new book last month called The Third Wave that hopes to enlighten its readers as to what to expect in the near future as AI becomes more interactive.

Below is a great animation that summarises the themes and insights from the book.

SMART ‘APPENDAGES’

WEARABLE AI

There have been a slew of AI wearable offerings being Demo’d and announced this week.

Some have seen the advent of wearables akin to a further adoption of the themes in 1984 and most horrifying. The idea that a device could be listening and recording every single waking moment of your life brings up many obvious concerns.

But, alas we have Humane - a company that has dedicated itself to the development of more ‘Human’ technology. Devices that are designed to integrate more closely with human needs. The company also boasts a team of key ex-employees from all the major tech companies.

Humane’s AI Pin presents a potential game changer in mobile devices and a major shift that could unseat Smartphones as the go to for mobile compute and online interaction.

They also have OpenAI backing.

Due to be fully unveiled in November this Year, AI Pin will likely capture a lot of attention.

:BIG PICTURE:

Let’s put a few things together

  1. Humane creates AI Pin a wearable AI device to rival Smartphones and backed by OpenAI

  2. OpenAI looks to create it’s own mobile device with Jony Ives

  3. Last week Andrej Karpathy predicted OpenAI could create the next OS with Multi-modal ChatGPT.

Is OpenAI going to create the substrate OS that all mobile devices and even desktops are based on?

We’ll have to wait and see

Pi IN THE SKY

A CHATBOT INTERVIEW

Pi has been promoted as a Large Language Model with empathy and an EQ.

What does this mean? It means that when you speak to Pi you will get, encouragement and friendly advice in a flowing conversational style.

Pi, and AI’s like it have also raised concerns this week about how potentially ‘empathetic’ AI’s may have unintended consequences in regards to human AI ‘attachment’.

Hugginface CEO Clemente Delangue expressed his thoughts this week, suggesting that more rigorous research is needed before deploying AI’s that might ‘manipulate’ human feelings at scale.

Check out this interview with Pi. You can get an idea of just how natural sounding the AI can be in conversation.

AUTOMATION ⚙️OR AUTONOMATION 🙏

THERE’S A BIG DIFFERENCE!

I love it when words emerge, whether they are old repurposed ones or new ones all together. They capture the zeitgeist and help frame new ways of looking at things, or in the case of new phenomenon like AI, just better explain them.

Autonomation is a term that comes from the auto industry and more specifically Toyota. According to Wikipedia ‘It may be described as "intelligent automation" or "automation with a human touch"‘. See the full explanation here.

Why is it helpful?

In the case of AI it’s helpful to think of the tasks that AI is capable of in two ways.

  1. Automation - no need for human interventions

  2. Autonomation - requires collaboration with humans.

A lot of the fear around AI and disruption in the workforce centres around the full automation of tasks currently carried out by humans. While there will be many examples of this, the biggest impact on the vast majority of us will be on tasks done in collaboration with AI. They will not only increase the level of productivity of individuals, but will expand and transform our professional roles.
